On March 12, 1986, the company had its initial public offering. At this stage Bob Miner served as the company's senior programmer. The name also drew from the 1977 CIA project codename, which was also Oracle's first customer. SDL changed its name to Relational Software, Inc ( RSI) in 1979, then again to Oracle Systems Corporation in 1983, to align itself more closely with its flagship product Oracle Database. Ellison wanted to make Oracle's product compatible with System R, but failed to do so as IBM kept the error codes for their DBMS a secret. Codd on relational database management systems ( RDBMS) named "A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks." He heard about the IBM System R database from an article in the IBM Research Journal provided by Oates. Ellison took inspiration from the 1970 paper written by Edgar F.
Larry Ellison co-founded Oracle Corporation in 1977 with Bob Miner and Ed Oates under the name Software Development Laboratories ( SDL).
That was exactly what I was requesting, plus I can see the logic in the event processing.
(PRE-UPDATE trigger in Oracle Forms, Before Update Event in MS Access). Similary, where/how in APEX to set a item value programatically prior to the DML UPDATE processing. Events are fired when item is changed to other Popup LOV types but I need the description to be displayed. Strange thing is I can't get Javascript to execute from events on either Popup LOV (Display Description, returns key value) and Popup LOV No Fetch (Display Description, returns key value without pre-fetch). I think I will have to use HTMLDB_GET, application process, HTML Form Element Attributes, etc. It is further complicated in that popup 3 is dependent on popup 1. This calculation should only be performed when a new record is being created, it should be derived in stitu as values are being selected - not when the insert has been committed to the database. AAA_BBB_UNDF when 1st and 2nd Popup Key are selected and the 3rd is not) (if a Popup Key value has not been selected the text 'UNDF' will be displayed e.g. Where CCCis the short_code column from table3 retrieved using the Key value returned from the 3rd Popup LOV (Display Description, returns key value) Where BBB is the short_code column from table2 retrieved using the Key value returned from the 2nd Popup LOV (Display Description, returns key value) Where AAA is the short_code column from table1 retrieved using the Key value returned from the 1st Popup LOV (Display Description, returns key value) Simple example is the INSERTED_ON := SYSDATE.Ī more complex requirement is where a APEX item value (text, display only saves state) is the concatenation of 3 looked up values
I prefer to do this rather than the database trigger method as you see the reflected changes on the screen sooner. (PRE-INSERT trigger in Oracle Forms, Before Insert Event in MS Access). What I want to know is where/how in APEX to set a item value programatically prior to the DML INSERT processing.
This raises the initial question of where in the APEX controller (trigger) events can you declare how to set an item value on insert and on update, presumably some PL/SQL with a condition or process? If you create database triggers on the tables as we described there will be no impact to existing Forms modules.ĭoes this mean that the V(APP_USER) in the trigger body will return the Operating System user name when the row is inserted by the MS Access Form via odbc? Thanks for your help I will look into authenticating using the Window facilities.
